If I understand you, you have a merc 3.7 with alpha drive (unknown condition) and you want to convert to an OB. Why put all of this time and MONEY into a boat with no collector or sentimental value? Glassing in the hole and adding an OB bracket is possible, buy only if the transom and stringers are solid. As for the power question, 190 worked from the factory, so .....

You bought this boat last year,
never heard it run,
are just now going to attempt to start her up, and if she doesn't turn over you are looking at dumping possibly $10 grand into converting to OB?
Wow....

Howdy,

You didn't say where you are located......but it appears to me that it might be best for you to take the boat to the nearest "stinray" dealer and have them "service" it for you.

You'll probably get a "reasonable" estimate of what needs to be "done" to it.

Pulling an I/O out and installing an outboard is possible.......but it will probably cost far more than just leaving the boat at the local Dump and getting another one already set up the way you want it.

Good luck.
