Hi all,

This may be helpful to some other "newbies" on the block. I've been replacing all the wires internally, and the external wiring harness (making a new one) Could someone tell me exactly what parts do what. I have identified different parts, but don't know what they do.

for example: Rectifier,Stator, Switch box, coil, and trigger.

I hope this isn't too basic a question, but it may help with how these parts work to create the spark.

Thanks
Bob

Rectifier Takes the A/C and makes it D/C for the electrics and eletronics on your boat to use.
Stator This device generates the A/C voltage for the rectifier to rectify. On some engines, these two devices supply the voltage being used by the rest of the black lettered devices, sometimes, they are totally seperate systems.
Switch box This device acts like a six-shooter (on a six bullet engine). It takes pulses made by the trigger, and switches the HIGH voltage (on coil-less engines), or the voltage to feed the the coil, one cylinder at-a-time.
Coil, which is a voltage amplifier...It takes low voltage, amplifies it for the plugs to use It's the 'bullets'.
trigger, makes pulses to 'pull the trigger' on the switchbox.
