According to my book, you have a Model I if it's a 4 cylinder. Ratio is 1.98 for a 4 cyliner, so is there a "1.98R" on the outdrive? If it's a 6 cylinder the ratio is 1.68.
Book doesn't list an oudrive for 6 cylinder, so I guess it doesn't need one.

(Just kidding)

1972 is a "R" drive, Pre-Alpha or Model 1 . They are all the same thing. Just some books or people call them different names.

Your drive was made from 1966 thru 1983.

hey i really apreiciate all the info on the out drive, i'm kinda new to inboards, always had outboards, now i know what i need when i take the unit apart, i really need to know due to the fact it has been sitting for six or seven years, also i looked at the boots on the unit and they look pretty good, maybe i just should grease it and go?
