What engine do I have

Hello all,<br /><br />I'm trying to identify what engine I have.<br />Its bayliner 85 18 Ft. There is sign on engine 5.0 L v8. How can I identify make? Can I buy oil filter in auto store?<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Alex

You can forget buying anything for it till you know what it is and get a manual so you have some idea what you are doing. There is a lot more to owning a boat than buying an automotive oil filter.<br />Pictures would sure help. Surely there is a decal somewhere that says OMC, Volvo, or Mercruiser. All 3 were used back then.<br />You could also get the Hull ID number and call Bayliner toll free at 877-861-6494, and ask them what came in the boat originally. They will also send you a copy of the owners manual..... For Free.

Thanks Don!!!<br />I have a manual.<br />It says Capri owner's manual there.<br />But I think it's generic because it describes 6 different engines?<br />I saw OMC label but if I remember it correctly it was not on engine.
