Here is what I know:
The PO said it was a V8 5.7 liter and it was previously identified here as a GM model. It had been started several times for 30-45 seconds at a time with no water input.

Here is what I think I know:
After downloading and reading several PDF manuals, by process of elimination I think the engine is an MCM 260 Alpha 1.
From reading this forum, I expect I need to replace the impeller on it. I went to our local boat shop, but I don't have a clear understanding on exactly which engine I have, and cannot locate a data plate or serial number on the block.

Where I'm at now:
I believe the impeller is mounted here (see image) on the front of the block. It looks to be an easy change, if I can only figure out what engine model I have.

It's a Volvo setup. But without even a year, it's impossible to get even close with a model number. What drive does it have. A picture would help, even a picture of behind the engine would help to ID things.

Sorry, it's a 1988 Imperial with a Volvo 275 outdrive.

With that year and drive, it's probably the AQ231B Volvo. The manual for it is up in the Adults Only sticky under Volvo information.

Re: What engine model is this?

I have the WORKSHOP MANUAL, ENGINE UNIT, AQ211, AQ231, AQ271, AQ311, BB231, BB261, 500, 501, 570, 571 manual, and it indicates that the AQ231 is a 305, but I was told mine is the 5.7 350.

Would AQ271 be more accurate since it's a 5.7??

I don't quite understand all these nomenclatures and when I read three different PDF files, I feel like I get 2 or 3 different indications of the engine/outdrive model. I'm accumulating info and storing it so as I go, I'll have more and more information to go by.

I don't know much but it's possible it's a aq225 just like mine. Same exact configuration I had. Minus that power steering pump. Where are the valve covers? I tossed mine. They were useless. Look on the block behind the left cylinder head. It's a casting number. It's a chevy engine or "gm" whatever, they are all the same. One company. Anyway google That casting number to know for sure. It's about 8 characters long. The 305 and 350 look identical on the outside. Not going to just look at it and tell. Look at the casting number period.
