Welcomt to iboats.

That's a Ford motor, so any filter to fit a 1990 2.3L Ford will work.

I assume you're referring to the gearcase plugs? They either have gaskets or O-rings. You can just replace those. Be aware that you have an upper and a lower gearcase that are connected. If you drain the lower half, you also drain the upper half. Fill from the bottom until it reads on the dipstick in the top. But there's also a plug on the side where the upper and lower meet. That should be removed until lube spills out, plugged, then continue filling. A lot of people forget the "continue filling" part and cook the upper.

"ANY" Parts store that sells oil filters will have a listing for that filter, even autoparts stores have a marine section in their books.

There have been a lot of people loose a very expensive drive because of not knowing how to refill them properly. Before you learn just how expensive they are, get yourself a service manual and read up on what you are doing before doing it, no matter what the job is.
You should always use new gaskets and orings whenever taking someting apart. Especially on an outdrive. It's much cheaper to replace the orings and gaskets than to rebuild a drive that has had water in it.

I don't doubt this works. Another method some people use is to drain from the bottom (drain) plug, remove the middle (fill) plug, and fill from the bottom until oil starts to leak from the fill plug. Then put the fill plug back in and continue filling until you've reached the proper level as indicated by the small 'dip stick' on top of the drive.

But the OMC recommended method is to drain from the bottom plug, replace it, and then slowly fill from the middle plug until you reach the 'full' mark of the dip stick while it's resting on top (i.e., not screwed in). After time has elapsed for any air pockets to rise, you should then check the dip stick level when it's fully screwed in.

Note how much oil you add as compared to what the specified capacity is and make sure they're close.

thanks for the input, is it possible if i fill it from the dip stick instead from the fill plug? for some reason, i cannot remove the fill plug. and does anyone know the capacity of the gearcase?

Capacity is approx 60 oz.

I SUSPECT it's possible, but I imagine it would take some time and manipulation of the drive (triming up & down) to work out air pockets. You might also fill from the drain plug, manipulate the drive, and then try to complete the filling from the top (probably with more manipulation needed). I'd make sure not to run it until I knew I had the full 60 ozs in there...

Or, you could fix the problem with the fill plug (impact driver perhaps?). I'd make sure I replaced the nylon gaskets on the drain & fill plugs.
