Hi all..!! Newbie here... I've looked a bit before asking this as it must be a 'well worn' question. Sorry, if you'll point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
I have an 'older' Evinrude 200XP... don't even know the year, but I expect it's about the year they first appeared. It's been stored for almost ten years. Checked, fogged, oiled, etc every 2-3 years. The last time I started it was about 5 years ago. Now it's time to use it.
I'm hoping that none of the rubber parts are too trashed, but...
My first question... what gas should I use..?? I remember a time when OMC was selling compression reduction kits to allow the use of unleaded... (yikes, am I THAT old..??)
This engine has/had a VRO but I THINK I disabled it, and ran pre-mix the last time I used it... (sorry, I can't remember). The thermostats were replaced, and the water jacket "flushed" just before storage.
The original fuel tank (Grady 19ft open bow) needs replacing, and I'm about to order that... the last time I ran it I used portable tanks. I'll be replacing the inline fuel-filter/water separator as well.
So, what am I to expect from this engine..?? How should I test it..??? What will fail first..?? Any fuel/oil issues..?? Sadly, most of the area I'll be boating in is slow speed zones... (wish the VRO worked..!!)
