What Gas..??

Hi all..!! Newbie here... I've looked a bit before asking this as it must be a 'well worn' question. Sorry, if you'll point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

I have an 'older' Evinrude 200XP... don't even know the year, but I expect it's about the year they first appeared. It's been stored for almost ten years. Checked, fogged, oiled, etc every 2-3 years. The last time I started it was about 5 years ago. Now it's time to use it.

I'm hoping that none of the rubber parts are too trashed, but...

My first question... what gas should I use..?? I remember a time when OMC was selling compression reduction kits to allow the use of unleaded... (yikes, am I THAT old..??)

This engine has/had a VRO but I THINK I disabled it, and ran pre-mix the last time I used it... (sorry, I can't remember). The thermostats were replaced, and the water jacket "flushed" just before storage.

The original fuel tank (Grady 19ft open bow) needs replacing, and I'm about to order that... the last time I ran it I used portable tanks. I'll be replacing the inline fuel-filter/water separator as well.

So, what am I to expect from this engine..?? How should I test it..??? What will fail first..?? Any fuel/oil issues..?? Sadly, most of the area I'll be boating in is slow speed zones... (wish the VRO worked..!!)

Thanks so much for any help and heads up..!!!!

You might want to read the thread "Awakening...in the Engine FAQ forum: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086

Use 87 or 89 US Octane Gas with TC-W3 oil at 50:1; The synthetic TC-W3 oils are a marked improvement over the earlier ones, with BRP XD-50 being a good match for your engine: http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/About.Us/FAQ/Oil.Fuel.htm

You can find the model number for your motor either on the transom bracket or on a welch plug on the cylinder head, or both.

It would be a good idea to drain and flush the carburetor float bowls before running the engine, along with flushing the tank, fuel lines and the pump. (It would save having to rebuild the carburetors after you pull any debris into them.)
