Freeze plug on the engine block should have the Serial# stamped on them.

Only major difference between a 175 and 150 is carburetion. There are no decals or badges on the motor cowling?

I am pretty sure you are wrong on this

the fast strike-Intruder line follows with the ocean runner and ocean pro line...they make a V4 in 90 hp and 115 hp

the V6 is made in 150 hp and 175 hp..

and it is often stated that the only difference is carbs... since i have a 90 ocean pro and 115 ocean runner... I looked into this

in the end I found

the carbs are different( bigger bore and jets)
the heads are different( lower hp is deeper with more volume)
and the blocks PORTING is different

so not even the carbs and heads exhange will get you to the next level..the sleeves in the block are different...so when people say the block is the same...it KINDA isnt true...because blocks come with the sleeves installed

I find it funny when rebuilders say they are selling a 60 degree V4 block as either 90 or 115 hp

NO WAY!!!!

i had my 115 block to look at when I took the heads off and I measured the ports..and i ground the ports on the 90 to match!! was a lot of work

Re: What H.P. is it?

I don't know bob, I think SOME might be this way. My mechanic, who seems to be an absolute OMC guru, told me he could make my 90 V4 and honest 115 with a carb swap. He said the 140 V4, however, had more substantial changes.

(unfortunately the reason we were having this conversation was due to the fact that he discovered, in the course of troubleshooting some running isses for me, that some previous owner moron had put 140 carbs on it.)

I douibt it in the 60 degree looper Eagle block design... my manual covers the gl and the sl models of the ocean runner-ocean pro, Intruder and fast strike models

it might be true with a cross flow....

it isnt true with the 60 degree blocks

look up the bore sleeves for a fast strike V6 from the 90's and see if they are same ones used in 150s and 175s!!!

I bet they are different

they were in the 90 and 115 hp motors of 1995 V4 60 degree loopers!

here is a picture of my 90 hp ocean pro block with the before port and the re ground port to the specs of the 115 hp model

the distance to the edge of the block is the spec we are talkign about

Re: What H.P. is it?

The cowling was damaged or lost, didn't think to look at freezeplug, will it show h.p., and if not can I go by serial # to look up h.p., as you can tell I'm not real knowledgeable, I do know that my old 1991 150 hp cowling fits it just fine.

the model number will be on TNT bracket neck...dont know exactly what to call it...

it is circled in this picture:

it should start with a J or and E ( johnson or evinrude) then have the HP (150 or 175) then some letters after....you should have GL in there as well for fast strike

good luck

Ok, So back to the original problem. Can anyone tell Grandpaz how he can tell the difference between a 150 and 175? He has already stated that the ID plate is missing.

Re: What H.P. is it?

is it a fitch motor??????

does the cover on the power packs say OIS????

if so you can look at part numbers on the carbs and or heads and correlate them to part numbers for either a 150 or a 175 hp motor in shop.evinrude.com

some motors dont have a visible welch plug with the model number on it..

just to follow up....I had this stored someplace... and finally found it..

this is from Advance marine , which sell outboard marine sleeves

90hp 1995-99 4 60 DEGREE FASTRIKE RS 3.600" 5.075" 3.800" 1097PSA $124.83 (D4118)
STRAIGHT SLEEVE WITH PORTS 3.820" 1097PSB $124.83 (D4118)
SLEEVES ARE PORT AND STARBOARD 3.800" 1097SSA $124.83 (D4118)
1.753" EXHAUST HEIGHT 3.820" 1097SSB $124.83 (D4118)

115hp 1995-04 4 60 DEGREE FASTRIKE RS 3.600" 5.075" 3.800" 1098PSA $124.83 (D4118)
STRAIGHT SLEEVE WITH PORTS 3.820" 1098PSB $124.83 (D4118)
SLEEVES ARE PORT AND STARBOARD 3.800" 1098SSA $124.83 (D4118)
1.673" EXHAUST HEIGHT 3.820" 1098SSB $124.83 (D4118)

for the OPs V6:

150hp 1992-04 6 60 DEGREE FASTRIKE STRAIGHT SLEEVE WITH PORTS RS 3.600" 5.075" 3.800" 1045PSA $124.83 (D4118)
1.700" EXHAUST HEIGHT / Port 3.820" 1045PSB $124.83 (D4118)
3.840" 1045PSC $124.83 (D4118)
60 DEGREE FASTRIKE STRAIGHT SLEEVE WITH PORTS 3.800" 1045SSA $124.83 (D4118)
1.700" EXHAUST HEIGHT / Starboard 3.820" 1045SSB $124.83 (D4118)
3.840" 1045SSC $124.83 (D4118)

175hp 1992-95 6 60 DEGREE FASTRIKE STRAIGHT SLEEVE WITH PORTS RS 3.600" 5.075" 3.800" 1065PSA $124.83 (D4118)
1.690" EXHAUST HEIGHT/ Port 3.820" 1065PSB $124.83 (D4118)
60 DEGREE FASTRIKE STRAIGHT SLEEVE WITH PORTS 3.800" 1065SSA $124.83 (D4118)
1.690" EXHAUST HEIGHT/ Starboard 3.820" 1065SSB $124.83 (D4118)

not much difference on the V6's....

to the OP

some dealers can tell you the model number if they know the serial number...

some dont want to botgher though

good luck

the bores on the carb opening are bigger on the 175...so if you can find any 150 or 175 and get to measure the carb openings...you can compare that ID to what you have on yours.
