What happened to my NEW SEI?

So I installed my new SEI drive a couple days ago. Went out yesterday for of boating fun. Drive shifted like a dream. No noises.

After pulling the boat out, I see this:

Why am I missing paint?

Only time I was in shallow water was launching and docking at an Island. Is this normal?

Looks like something got wrapped around it. Also, does the prop spin free without rubbing on anything. May be missing a thrust washer, the big tapered one that goes on before the prop.

if he were missing the thrust washer he would have trashed the prop and the retaining nut the first time he put it into gear.

Looks like something got wrapped around it.

Or,... Maybe some gritty sandy Weeds...

Thurst washer is on. Prop spins freely without rubbing/touching.

I was thinking something wrapped itself around it too.

I went to the same places I've been too countless times before with no issues on the old drive. I put the new drive on, and boom, paint is scuffing already!

Ayuh,... So grab a rattlecan of Rustoleum Black,+ shoot it every time you geta Chance....

Easy enough to pull the prop off and check for fishing line or anything wrapped around the shaft.....while the prop is off get out the Rustoleum...
