what happens if alpha 1 question

i am changing my alpha 1 gen 1 impeller what would happen if when i assembled the lower and upper units if the lower unit was not in forward gear because i bumped the prop. would it still go together? would i have forward gear and lose reverse?

the reason im asking is because i think i did this durring install if i put the throttle in forward and try to turn the prop counterclockwise it wont turn if i put the throttle in neutral the prop spins freely both ways if i put the throttle in reverse the prop spins both ways.this is with the trim all the way up did i mess up?

Just look under the drive and see if the upper and lower shift shafts are engaged properly. <br />If they are, pull the drive back off and see if the roller on the shift shaft lever missed the shift cable as in the picture below.<br /><br />

Assuming you did not remove the upper from the boat, but only removed the lower,and bumped the lower out of gear, yes it will go back together but will not shift properly. In your case, I would suggest removing the lower, putting the shifter at the helm in neutral. Next rotate the shift shaft on top of the lower until the prop spins freely in both directions. Re-install lower and check for propper operation. If you still run into problems, pull the whole drive as Don suggested above.

ya guys i pulled the lower and redid it but i still had a problem, a small adjustment to my shifter cable did the trick. thanks for the advice
