I'm wondering about Whiskey in glass bottles with the seal unbroken.

I got a few bottles that
still have the state tax seal on them......from the 1950's.

So, Do we think it'll be vinegar? or is it going to be really good?

It's Crown Royal, Old Grandad, and Chivas Regal if it helps with an opinion.

Should be fine, take it to someone who is local that specializes in finer alcohol products, brandy in the earlier years sell for $500 and up per bottle. Bring them in and see what they have to say, you might have something there. We have Roof Brothers here that have wine tasting, beer tasting events all the time, Have them checked out, could be worth some money or just keep them.

They will be fine. I've drank many whiskies out of old bottles. Whiskey doesn't really age in the bottle. The only time I've had issues is with nasty old corks, particularly if the cork has been in contact with the product. You might try to find a pressurized cork puller to get the corks out and replace them.

Just send it on down to Georgia and I'll be happy to give you a free evaluation of the results of aging on unopened bottles of achohol. Unlike wine, I don't think your bottles have improved or deteriorated, but frankly being pretty much a natty guy that's just a guess. Maybe someone with more expertise can help you.

Or, you could taste it your self and let us know

The Crown Royal and Old Grandad will be just fine.

Chivas Regal turns into something deadly poison to anyone under 70, but great for persons over 70.

Be a shame to pour it out. I volunteer to dispose of it properly for you. :)

I helped a guy dispose of some old Jim Beam from collectible bottles. It wasn't fit to give away, so we drank it............If you don't like it, I'll help you get rid of it.

I appreciate all the kind offers to help properly dispose off this particular problem. And believe this concern for my well-being answers my question.
However, I think it'll be saved for special occasions.

Happier,
If you run these comments through the selfish B$ filter, you should have a pretty good lineup on the value of your collection.

hope it helps

Re: What happens to alcohol in time ?

Yes, I caught that.:)

It was kind of a guess cause usually booze doesn't last that long around my crowd.

However, my grandad had this stuff sitting around a loooong time. I thought maybe it would be turned to vinegar or something and be worth more in the original unopened bottle with the tax seal than be worth drinking.

Thanks for all the input.

nothing happens to it, chivas Royal Salute doesn't even go into glass bottles until its aged for a minimum of 25 yrs. Its very smooth.

....good for killing useless brain cells.;)
