Your not going to have much luck getting rid of 207 cookie it comes a long with MSN.....unless you stay off msn, with lots of user's dumping the temp internet files and defraging should help a bit,but when you dump the cookies they have to re-attach the next time you go to the site = slower download......at least you will have the cookies you want that way.I went from dial-up Win 95 to dial-up Win 2000, now dsl so I know your pain.....Still I did like the features 95 had esp getting the address of people that tried to infect your computer

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

Well after a little tinkering, I won't say tweaking I don't have that capacity, I was able to get the system resouces up from 54 percent to 72 percent but even opening the control panel drops that down to 69. According to the online sources I know of 256 is the max ram for this machine. Would any body care to suggest a site that might refute this? Bob, I have enough trouble keeping the monitor free of coffee spew so please, leaven your humor with a little sarcasm. ;) D upper, roger that and wilco. Cruiser, He is currently on a tour of Mekiko and we are to meet in Vegas this weekend. Guess you aren't a follower of land speed vehicles. I guess you don't know "my Boat" is a 1962 Powercat trihull with an inline 6 Merc. It has a wide transom and Clams is trying to get me to put another 6 on it. Lonnie has a son named Tige, who has followed in is footsteps, well not exactly - a few years ago he was involved in a major crash and I guess he is "retired" at the ripe ol' age of 30

if ya want to keep something old, & hip, have an old boat.......:)

techostingray. nope, i don't know yer boat, but i'm learning. ya really showed me up for old and hip i'd say. by 13 years. yers is a true classic. very cool. wish mine was but is to new and not sought after like powercats are. clams must be right. put another 6 ontoit. i just was over on dicks marinetv. watchin the fun.... thems powercats would be high on my list of something old and very hip to have....:) i'm envious......

i got me abouts the puter you got. mines a p2, beefed up ram to 256. and a laptop w/windows 98. it is darn slow compared to this newer machin i got but still works just fine. only has 4gb of memory. so i always dumped internet files. defragged often. never downloaded anything from the web. did use if for years with dialup. the cable i'm doing now is what made me have to upgrade. couldnt seem to get a cable modem hooked into my laptop w/o an eithernet port....anyways. keepin it clean seemed to be the best bet for when i was into that........

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

After I have scrubbed everthing from my temporary files I still get a 2o7 cookie when I log on to I boats. Does the I boats TOS Agreement allow them to effect the registry?

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

I have computers with the latest XP with 2 gigs of ram and all that other stuff :) and when i am encodeing video they work hard other than that there loafing alll the time

I also have 2 machines with ME that run 3500 dollars a seat DOS based CAD programs that will not run on XP and at there staying there and they go on the MODERN INTERNET just fine

I also push around around a 486/100 WIN95 BOX on the shop floor to to troubleshoot and program PLC controls NOT ONE BIT of speed difference between it and a brand new box for that use

As a matter of fact the newer downgraded XP PLC software is harder to find problems with because its so freaking slow :) trying to run on XP

And to answer you question ME has memory leaks i use a freeware Ram Defragmenter from AMS that gets it back and it generally runs about 21 days 24/7 between reboots

http://www.download.com/FreeRAM-XP-Pro/3640-2086_4-10516960.html

one of many that will help the problem

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

Thanks Tommays, my in house "authority" is opposed to down loading more programs, especially freeware. On the other hand one picks up and loads lot of stuff that is not really useful. I am sorry but the second paragraph confuses me. Please restate it.

Huh! when I scrub temp files the cookie is still there
Well of coarse it is you have to dump the cookies.

Of course that makes it a horse of a different color. Are Coarse comments hostile?

If that is the iboats cookie, and you allow cookies, I'd say yes it does because you are the one that allows the cookie. You may be able to stop the cookie, but then you may not be able you use iboats.

Maybe a catch 22?

Ray

I run Me on 2 machines without problems other than the need for a better memory tool to deal with the memory leak problem that causes ME to crash

I need to keep ME or WIN98 as the XP kills some very costly software that there is no need to replace

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

OK, Tommays. I was doing some thinking on this and though the problems I have experienced have not been a total crash I sense that the program has too much "user friendly" instruction. It is like once you have done something the computer thinks that is the way it should be done and continues to keep that on top. One of the boys has xp and he is a gamer. Another problem is that microsoft keeps doing "work arounds" rather than get to the heart of the problem - Did you know that the original name of windows 95 was chicago? If you look in the instruction set you will find references to Chicago in software that is being used today. It is sort of like the cart pulling the horse. Solve one problem and create two more.

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

Tell me more about "memory leaks" I have noticed more than once that on the forum pull down when I click on "enter forums" the cursor activates the layer below it which is Moderators, and the it says you are not.... Is there a co-relation between layering and memory leaks?

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

As i need to keep legacy support i got tired of the computer crashing :)

So i started with the small utility in the upper right of the picture its called tiny meter

As the computer was used the ram would slowly leak to ram heaven :) its gets used and is not released when its not needed till there is none left and then it would crash

I do not know waht the user bar is BUT when it gets used up it will also crash

The memory tool finds the lost memory at a preset level and prevents the system from crashing

I generaly run a CAD program, outlook, excel, word and The Firefox browser with 6 tabs on 512 meg of ram on this machine

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

So, crashes are related to out of memory issues? I thought it was more like directive confusion.

Re: What happens when a computer crashes

Computer programming is all about what to do when certain conditions are met (If this, then do that). Crashes happen when hardware fails or something happens in an application or operation system when a condition occurs and there is no instructions for that condition. Often an endless loop occurs.

That's about as simple as I can put it.

I trust this guy and have had e-mail with him as it was coded and debuged

It will tell what is going on with the computer
