Well you know the saying, one man's trash is another man's.......I dunno, I enjoy reading the rebuild/restore forums but some of those guys are masochists! Friscoboater for instance!

I do hope the OP enjoys his new boat though!

you are paying a whole lot for a free boat. The $275 plus $200 "assessment fee" is the least you will spend. For a 700 mile round trip--call it 28 hours driving--what is your time worth?
Are you able to repower it when you get it home--assuming the hull and transom is sound--and have you priced it?

Boats like that are a dime a dozen around here. I'd consider spending more on one that has a better history and some reliability. This one smells like a donated hulk and unless you are in the boat repair business is going to be a big big project--and expensive.

I'd be worried about this one. An old OMC I/O is unrepairable, you won't find new parts because OMC is out of business!!! you are looking at about 3 grand for a repower. as said before, hopefully the hull and transom are in good shape.

I wonder if he is picking it up right now.....

Weird... People must pull off the impossible all the time.. Known a few people who have fixed em... Not that they was worth it... There are some parts floating around... Some people are into self abuse

Thank you all for all the advice and comments on the trailer. I am discussing the other options about this boat in other forums and groups. For those concerned about the engine I have no intention of using this engine long term if at all. Eventually this wil be modded into an outboard for lower cost maintenance in the long term.

For those interested, upon arrival the condition of both the trailer and the boat were far better than the pictures did justice (keeping in mind I planned on this being a restoration) the trailer was in much better shape than my concerns warrented. The tires were in very good shape, good tread, no cracking. The wheels were rusty where paint had worn off but the bearings had been rebuilt 3 years ago and according to owner it only drove 70 miles after that. The maintenance records are complete going all the way back to 81. It is a single owner boat and they even had the original owners manual. The drive back was uneventful, checking the hubs every 100 miles or so, the axle and hubs on the trailer were cooler than the tires on the truck! I used high temp grease to repack the bearings before we started and only needed to add some once.
