What have you done that your kids just don't understand.

When I was growing up, I used to help a neighbor white-wash his trees.

I used to have to push a plow in the garden.

I used to have to carry the clinkers out. Kids ask "what's a clinker"? Kids just don't understand.

What have you done that they don't understand?

What's a Clinker?
I own a Klunker, but they're too young to drive. ;)

Why whitewash trees? Isn't that a Huck Finn fence thing?

A plow in a garden? Must be a big garden.
Couldn't afford a horse to pull it? Free fertilizer. ;)

I don't understand. Gee it feels great to be a kid again. ;)

Slept out on the porch in the summer because it was cooler. They asked why didn't we just turn on the air conditioning.

For the first few years of my life, I got to be the living TV remote control for my Dad. When we wanted to change between the three stations we picked up, I was the remote.

When I had research to do, I went to the library.

My favorite video game was "asteroids" followed by "pong".

Each age group will live with various inventions that make life "easier" or "different". Sometimes a faster lifestyle isn't best.

Go outside and do physical activity. Go to my friends house instead of calling them on the phone. Use a phone that was attached to another part of the phone by a cord. Do my schoolwork. Play music on large black discs. Chores....

I used to have to cut and split the winter's supply of firewood Usually at least 10 cords (true cords, not the face cord variety.)

Manhandled the logs with a PeeVee, and cut it all with a misery whip (cross cut saw)

scrapper I didn't know that you could even grow my favorite vegetable (tobacco) that far north. Actually, my really favorite vegetables are hops and barley but the other one seems to go hand and hand.

Pick fruit from the backyard trees and help Mother prepare and preserve it. Also did same with tomatoes for whole and soup, and rhubarb, and Quinces, infact anything that was edible. And when the first deep freeze came home, it was filled with vegies, which we had to help with too.
To be honest, I often wonder if we didn't eat better than we do now, when I think of the great hot flaky-pastry rhubarb pies we got for desert, with the cream skimmed off the top of the milk billy.
If you snared a bunny or caught an eel, home it came and on to the table it went.
Cheers
Phillip

Wouldn't that be "clankers"?
Phylis Diller tells a joke about when she was a kid. "we used to 8 quarts of milk a day, four to drink and four to spill." :D

Nope. Clinker is what's left in the bottom of your Warm Morning in the morning.

We had a coal furnace. I would have to carry out the ashes and stoke it for the night. In the spring I got to help Mom was down the walls.

Played with Lincoln logs when I was a kid.Closest thing we had to video games like Pong was a Mr. magnet.Caught lightning bugs.Don't hardly ever see them any more around here.Built Christmas tree forts with discarded trees after Christmas and raided other rival neighborhood forts of their trees.Raced homemade rubber band paddle boats in the gutter water after a rain.Made our own bed very morning.Polished our shoes.Said our prayers before bedtime.

Yea I know when you were a kid, like the song says, you used to walk 5 miles to school, uphill both ways.

When I was a kid I used to play Doom 2 on the old DOS systems. A 486 was a fast computer. Chevy came out with their Astro van.

Age is relative.

Hi all

Believed that an IBM AT with DUAL yes you heard right, Dual 5.25" floppies was the ultimate in computing.

Had to eat all the food on my plate.

Had to complete 2 years of military service.

Played sport when winning was important but not at the expense of integrity.

Mow the lawn weekly.

Read books on adventure rather than watch TV.

Had to work hard to get into the position so they would not have to. (Twisted logic)

Had to buy my own first car.

Got my first Brno .22 at the age of 10.

Built tree houses, played outside etc. rather than being glued to a Sony Playstation control, even well into their 20's.

Loosen a wheel nut that they can't, a Playstation control hardly builds upper body strength.

To many others .......

Cheers
Andrew

My son visited Grandma when he was 10. He asked her how you use the old timey phone. It had a dial instead of buttons.
