I have an older Johnson outboard and am looking to hone/deglaze the cylinder before i put new rings on. Its a 2 stoke and i have heard bad things about using the standard 3 prong deglazing tool. What type should i use? I am not looking to resize the bore or take off a considerable amount of metal, i just want to clean it up a bit and put a crosshatch back in the cylinder.
Any help would be appreciated.

You can use a straight hone no problem. There is more of a problem with the ball hones, depending on the size of the port and the balls on the hone they can fall into the port and cause some damage..
