first... eveinrude doesnt make "short shaft" 115hp's.

second... a long shaft kicker is often good cause when its wavy out and the *** end of the boat comes up on a wave, you want the motor to stay in the water so you dont burn it up.

go to ebay and search for a 5-8hp evinrude, johnson, mercury, yamaha, suzuki,or tohatsu 2 stroke. keep it a 2 stroke.

heck even an older air cooled sea king woould work.

if you want cheap and simple, you shouldve gotten a kite, not a boat

Why limit to 2-cycle? I use a 5 hp 4-cycle Nissan for auxillary and (mostly) trolling on my 16.5 ft Alumacraft. It will get me back to the dock/ramp, a couple of miles, in any wind/current I am likely to encounter in Oregon bays and I can troll for several days on one 2.5 gallon tank!

Fuel use isn't going to be any substantial amount more with a 2-stroke, BUT, the weight/hp ratio will be more. 4-strokes are great kickers, but they add more weight to the transom than a 2-stroke of the same HP.

I would keep the kicker the same as the main engine. ie, if you have a 2 stroke main, use a two stroke kicker. If they are different makes, swap one of the fuel connectors so that they match. That way you only need one fuel tank.

Massimofinance,

You are much better off with a longshaft than a shortshaft.
P.S. Your Capri should have a longshaft transom, but back around 1988 they did release some with an 18" transom with some special edition Force 85's that had 18" legs.

just suck it up and get a 115hp "kicker" that matches the first one, that way , when the first motor dies, you can still plane the boat and even go sking ....with your kicker !!!
