what is a basstracker worth ?

hey folks i have a chance to buy a 89 basstracker pro 17. the man says the engine has a bad cylinder,(at least he was honest enough to tell me) he says the boat is in good shape except maybe the carpet might need replacing. it has a minn kota foot control trolling motor, factory trailer with new tires and bearings. i was wondering what you all think would be a good price for this rig ? and also does anyone have one this age and mode, as i was wondering what the max h.p rating was.

Have you seen it? What type of engine? A bad cylinder is not a good sign. Go to NADAGUIDES.Com and there is a section for boats. That boat is actually a Tracker but named basstracker pro 17 You will have to dig around a bit but right now engines are at a premium due to the season (used ones too). Once you see the NADA you will have to know if it has a console? or is it a tiller. Sorry I can't give you a right answer but I can get you pointed the right way.

Some other members can chime in more about the engine too.

If you also google Tracker Marine they have a customer service number and you can ask about the HP

if it needs carpet, it probably needs a deck replacement.

i havent seen the boat yet, i am planning on doing it tomorrow. the engine is supposed to be a mariner. it runs, but only has 40lbs compression on one cylinder. and it is a console steer. the man replace the decks a couple of years ago, but the sun has dried the carpet out from not being covered. the sun gets pretty warm here in arkansas

I bought a 88 Tournament 17 last spring for 2500 however it has a merc classic 50 that runs great and a solid deck. I has been a great boat for the fishing i do the only thing i had to fix were some minor elec probs.

The console is worth more. New decks are common place and that's a plus, the carpet is common but easy to replace or completely eliminate.

Mariner is a good outboard. This is sounding better..... the piston has 40lbs psi which equals no hole in the piston or block. I would do a close examination and try to establish How Long Has The Engine Been Running with a bad piston? If it is a stuck ring there are ways to make it "un-stuck".

Be sure to check out the trailer too. This is normally a poor time to buy a used boat due to the season but you might have found a bargain.
