Re: what is a VRO

Marty

You have to assume that it's mixing the proper amount of oil to gas ratio. The VRO is one pump that is divided into two sections. One side pumps fuel(Fuel Pump), the other pumps oil(Oil Pump). The 2 are combined at the pump and sent to the carburator. It's either working, or it's not. Although the oil side or fuel side can fail, it's rare. Same for the fuel side. But it does happen. The valve by the red lever is for hooking up a can of fogging oil for winter storage. This is a procedure that has been gone through many times on this forum and is good practice. You really need to have a manual for your motor. They have them at the bottom left of this page.

Re: what is a VRO

Hi Marty
Just to add a little bit to what rick said. The part with the red lever is the primer soleniod. When you activate your primer/choke switch, this squirts fuel into the manifold for starting. Rick already described the function of the tire valve. The red lever is a manual override feature. In the event of a dead battery or a malfunction of the soleniod you can flip the lever for a manual prime (using the squeeze bulb on the fuel hose) for a manual start (rope start). VRO stands for variable rate oiling. The only way to tell if it is working is to mark the oil tank and watch how much it drops. There is also supposed to be an alarm that sounds if there is a problem. Now there are proper procedures to safely test (with out engine damage)these functions. The test procedures are spelled out in all of the manuals covering this model. And as rick suggested do a serch of this board.
