I have been using a dual stye flusher to flush my manifold, risers & heat exchanger. After boating in the ocean.
I attach it to the 280 drive at the water intake vents. ( My impeller is less than a year old)
When i turn on the water, it goes all over the place and none comes out of the exhaust & the 2 water tubes on the sides of the drive. Engine is running @1500 rpms.
Only when I compress the flusher with my hand is when some water comes out.
There is also a small hole directly under the vent that water comes out. The risers get pretty warm too!
I just installed brand new manifolds, risers & rubber exhaust boots.
Also , when the boat is in the ocean and running , the risers are luke warm, so I know the cooling is good.
JUst need a good flusher!
Thanks!

Plug that hole on the bottom when running on the flusher (muffs). It is there to drain the intake passages when out of the water. When in the water it is covered up so to speak, but out in the air it needs to be plugged when running on the muffs.

The filler nozzel from the RTV Silicone makes a great plug for the bottom drain.
I always use duct tape to make sure the muffs fit tight.
The drive needs to be dry if using tape.

I threaded mine and run a bolt up in the hole while flushing

And I find a rectangular muff works best. I got mine at WalMart.
