what is better

Looking for a new to me boat, what do you think is better ?

say a 15 year old boat with 200 hours and well maintained or a say a 10 year old boat with 600 hours ?

not sure I wanna commit to buying a Brand new boat and really don't wanna play the " Project Boat " game again

How many hours can one expect out of a I/O powerplant ?

For one thing, hour meters don't tell you a lot because you don't know when it was installed. Most boats did not come with hour meters, and many times a second or third owner installs one.
The type maintenance is what it's all about, a 10 year old boat with 600 hours that got yearly service per the manual is going to last a lot longer than a 15 year old boat that gets used and never taken care of.

I agree completely.

And it's been my personal experience that people who don't use their boats a lot are the ones who skip maintenance that should be done yearly. They rationalize it as "Well, I don't need to change the oil, I only put 10 hours on it last summer." etc...

Ayuh,... I'd rather buy a Well Maintained boat with 1000hrs,...
Rather than a boat with No maintanance,+ only100hrs...

A SBC, with Proper maintanance will easily see 2000/ 3000hrs... Or More...

Dude, sounds like your in the mood for a purchase. What i am finding is there is alot more to a boat purchase than just if the engine has compression. If you havent bought yet this resource is a great place to start. There are power plants and outdrives these folks will tell you to stay away from. At this point you can input your length and powerplant year range, useage (fishing, cruising)reference and can receive the best setup opinion possible. Prob need price range too. Wish i was in your shoes. I bought before finding this place.
