I took my carbs off to clean them as the boat has gotten harder to start
and seems a bit boggy. The float bowls are stamped 1 5/16" which i normally
take to mean from surface to float toe but the floats are currently set at
1 or 1 1/16" . Is there a reason they are set drier than whats on the carbs or
should i set them dead on 1 5/16". Thanks

The float is usually set level to the bowl edge when held upside down.

You have a couple of things confused.

1) That 1-5/16 is the size of your carbs. It doesn't have anything to do with the float levels.

2) You were referring to the float drop correct? I believe that you have the correct setting with 1-1/8, +/- 1/8"

3) when you invert your carb upside down it should be level with the bottom of the carb. I mean it should be parallel with it. It won't be level, just parallel.
