ok where did you measure resistance from that it was all over the place? negative post to motor?

That thunk is the solenoid hitting the starter and the starter saying NOOOOOO, and its bad!!

yeah I agree but I want to know why the ground is showing high resistance I am still questioning the integrity of the engine ground

if it were me I would replace the engine ground and the starter but I want more numbers just to be sure

Yup. Put the negative probe in the negative post and placed the positive probe on engine ground.

That thunk is the solenoid hitting the starter and the starter saying NOOOOOO, and its bad!!

So the starter is shot?

I want you to remove the negative wire to the engine and measure it out of the boat not connected to anything, I suspect this will need to be replaced, but we need to verify that, if it is bad get another one from the auto parts store, then try again and fire it up, if you have the money go ahead and replace the starter as well it probably needs it but I am anal about these things and go piece by piece it certainly sounds like the starter and solenoid have had enough, but the high resistance from the battery to the engine is a bad bad number.

Update:

My mechanic came out and swapped out the starter on Monday. It's been rainnig like crazy here cause of TS Debbie, but had a chance to take her out last night. So far, so good. Fires right up every time! A big thank you to Lipp for all his help. Seriously, the guy went above and beyond what I would've expected from a stranger on a forum. I guess that is what makes this such a great community.

Also, check out what my mechanic found under his truck while he was in my driveway. He said he planned on taking it home and giving it to his daughter for her 19th Birthday that night. haha
