Re: What is everyone using to tow their tinnies?

My 15'6" Bayrunner plus motor plus trailer probably totals 1000-1200 lbs., depending on how much stuff is loaded. Tows nicely with my 2007 Tacoma Access Cab w/4 cyl. engine. Previously towed OK with my 1985 Nissan King Cab PU, also w/4 cyl. engine. Since it's only about 10 miles to the San Diego and Mission bay launch ramps I have no idea about milage when towing.

For the last year I've been towing with a '07 Mountaineer 4.0 w/ awd. It reminds me every second there's something attached to the hitch... However just a few weeks ago I ordered a '12 F150 with the Ecoboost motor. I can't imagine it will ever realize there's a 18' boat behind it.

Heres how I've been doing it this spring... Weee DOGGIEZ!

Well that's one way to do it, I suppose. I love the red flag on the trailer tongue, because you know, safety first and all that.

I just pull my little 14' tinny with my old '95 Ford Ranger pickup t-ruck. They're ugly, but they bring me home every time....so far :)

Mostly it will be highway miles a couple times per season, haven't noticed any issues yet.

What engine does that have?

We have an Saturn Aura (same thing as a malibu with a saturn badge on it, and amber LED's instead of the blue ).
it has the 3.5, and has lots of power.

We have put almost 100k on it, and so far 0 issues, I'm just about to flush the rad, plugs, and trans fluid/filter.
GM also did a very good job on the trans programming, it's very fun to drive

I have wondered how well that would do with a trailer, but I have the S10... :)

Those Impalas are nice

It has the 3.4L. It's been a good car overall, despite replacing two intake manifold gaskets [$$$], has 192,000 on it now, but I know I'm on borrowed time.

I tow my 14' Grumman with my '06 Scion xB. It's pretty low, both in stature and power, but it does get the job done! I've towed it 360 miles round trip once and it was no problem.
I don't think it's going to hold up to my Chieftain, so I'm in the market for an old pickup. :D

the turbo helps him get it up all the mountains in his area.....

and Chuck--you DID tell TundraRocks the same thing about his AMERICAN MADE tow vehicle too, right? as opposed to many of the Dodge Rams out there, which are made in Mexico. they build F150s there too but i don't think they export em here.

yours was. but they also build em at a big plant in Hermosillo, Sonora. i think the Mexican-made F150s are domestic market only though.

curious to hear about your results with the ecoboost....i've read some pretty interesting things about em.

Used to tow with my wife's 2005 Nissan Quest 235hp 3.5 liter multivalve V6 - great on gas and lots of power but when "Outtripper"
was totally loaded with kids , gear, and beer for camping trips it was barely adequate.(like in pic)

So I sold my beloved Crown Vic and did some reasearch got a 2003 Expedition 260 hp 5.4liter V8 (my Dad was a Ford engineer in the 50s)

With the factory tow package she has a 5000lb pull , 6000lb with trailer brakes and 8900lb with brakes and a weight distribution hitch

It could theoretically tow three Islanders(can you say overkill?)

Had equipment I had never heard of before - like she can lose all of the coolant and half the cylinders will shut down and become cold air pumps giving you unlimited limp range at half power!
