Believe me, you are missing all the signs. There are a lot of clues that all point to a "tire kicker" looking for attention. As for the tax refund excuse, do you really think a self emplyed party store owner who is required to make quarterly estimates to the IRS is going to buy a fully rigged 18 ft. Searay with his tax refund check?

BULL PUCKY!

Cobra: >>Let's be realistic and pragmatic here. Ol'koz is blowing sand up our shorts and making himself important on the backs of dealerships and sales reps.<<

BINGO

Cobra: >>I'll remove all my posts once I see koz's boat. I just don't believe life is a one sided story about how awefull he is being treated by so many different dealerships. I see a professional shopper that will spend weeks, months, and maybe years before laying out some cash for a boat.

Very well said. Even then, I have my doubts about the CASH part.....

Re: What is going on with these dealers?!?!?!

Obvously all you Professional sales people have a very tainted view of peoples' motives and buying habits. So be it. And if you've never been treated like dirt by a salesperson, good for you. And if you are making enough money, great. But if you have convinced yourself that you are such a great salesman that you can judge a customers potential just by seeing him walk thru the door, then you will never know how wrong you are. Your efforts should be directed at turning those tirekickers and windowshoppers into current or future customers, whether its next week, or next year. Maybe you will find out that they aren't tirekickers at all.

Customer perception of dealership goodwill is pretty nonexistent these days, and the owners or managers should be getting on the sales staff not just to increase units or margins, but to be ambassadors for the company. Maybe you will turn 5% of those tire kickers into commission checks.

If a salesperson won't even put down his newspaper, I walk. And he thinks , "I knew that guy wasn't a serious buyer." A bit of a self fulfilling prophesy, don't you think? Kind of like the waitress that gives bad service because "she knows you won't tip anyways."

My last new car purchase went something like this.
Walked into a dealership, asked for a brochure. A beautiful but real snotty woman gave it to me and told me thats not what I want, then continuously interupted me while I was trying to read the brochure. The visit lasted about 3 minutes.
Went back in the next day and 2 nice salespeople walked up and asked if I needed help. I said I would let them know in 5 minutes.
Just then the woman from the previous day walked in and started yelling that she was helping me yesterday and that I should have asked for her, and that it wasn't very nice of me to not seek her out.

I walked into the sales and finance office and told the manager that I wanted to buy a car, that the woman was a bjtch, that I wouldn't deal with her, and it was up to him to get her away from me or I was gone.

He handled the sale himself. Took 5 minutes. Picked the car up the next day.

I suppose this story is BS in your eyes too. Well, call them and find out for yourself. Dealeership is Northpoint Ford Lincoln Mercury in Milwaukee, 7676 N 76th street to be exact. The managers name, Mark Scaffidi.

When I bought my Beemer, I knew what I wanted, didn't like the snobby salesman, and wasn't going to give him a commission because of his attitude and lack if knowledge. I found out when his day off was and made a deal directly with the owner. I spent an extra $800 on accessories and the owner handed me a brochure for a rally and a voucher for a free hotel room. This deal took a whole 20 minutes.

Anyways Koz, maybe you should do as I did and circumnavigate the salesman, and tell the owner why. If he's a smart businessman, he will close the deal. If not, he loses a sale.

oh yeah, I've only bought 5 new motorcycles 4 new cars/trucks, but wouldn't you guys have liked to have the commission checks?

Hi ETHEL, Glad to see you are still visiting us in the forum.

Re: What is going on with these dealers?!?!?!

I forgot my password at my work computer so I had to register under another name because some of mental giants on here demanded an immediate response.

To those who think that a self-employed shop owner doesn't have enough cash to buy a 18' boat. Lest we assume some more. First, the store is my side business, second, my full-time work is in law enforcement. I am an Investigator for the Supreme Court/Disciplinary Counsel. For the mentally-challenged on the board or at least this thread, I investigate judges and attorneys for misconduct and other bad things. I'm also a police officer in Central, OH. So let's just say that the income allows me to purchase a 18' foot boat in all it's glory and grandur. The tax check just allows me to incorporate less of my money.

Now, I'd like to thank those who understand how customer service is "not what it used to be", to paraphrase another esteemed member here. It isn't and that's a fact. If you want to know what customer service is, call Paul's Marine in Delaware, OH and ask for Fred Holyfield. Ask him to sell you a boat like he did for me today. Ask him what I told him. It might go something like this. "Fred, I know you need to make a living and I want a boat, let's see what you got." After he threw in the Bimini top, depth finder and trailer brakes, we had a deal. He has my deposit and I advised him when my money was coming in. Hull # SERR8834C***. That being said, whatever your name is on here, remove your posts like you said you would. Come on, be a stand up guy and show some character:)

For the majority of us, we expect to have some level of customer service. For the rest, they just want everything handed to them. For the guys who have a had a problem with me, I just have the following to say:

1.
I'm glad you guys don't care how you spend your money, it just makes it easier for me to get a good deal.

2.
I really don't need your business at my store. Come on through. I'll be glad to give you the personal customer attention that YOU expect. Just don't be surprised when I toss you out on your rear-end.

3. If your an attorney, watch your p's and q's while conducting legal representation in Ohio.

4. And most importantly, watch your speed, because I'll make sure to give you that complete lack of service that you expect and just keep writing away and the state of Ohio will appreciate your financial contribution:) Make sure that trailers legal!

5. Now, all the above may be an exaggeration and having some fun with you, but the fact is, I was just expecting what any REASONABLE person would expect. Actually, I was expecting LESS than most would who are looking to buy a boat. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

So, this is a kudos for Paul's Marine and Fred. Thanks for the 15 minutes you gave me and I appreciate the deal that was good for both of us.

If anyone comes through Central, OH and makes it to Buckeye Lake. Come on through the drive and I'll take care of you, especially the select few here:) To the rest, I'll take care of you and the rest of your party. State law allows me to only reduce beer by so much:)

Brian, thanks for the e-mail and the info. Hope to see you soon and I hope your boat issues are addressed accordingly.

I feel your pain Roscoe. At least now it appears I have a guy to buy my boats from, like I do the cars and motorcycles.

By the way RICK-MI, that's why you have a good accountant take care of the IRS. They get what they expect and not a penny less. Your from Michigan I see. Add I thought I liked everyone from Michigan being that I'm from there. Thanks for ruining that for me:) From your writing, it appears you are a graduate of the Detroit public school system. Accurate or no?

kozman,
Congrats on the new boat. Now would be a good time to parade the new purchase past the poor excuse for salesmen and show the owner/managers of those dealerships what their salesmen cost them. Best of luck with your new toy.

Opinions defer between many people and that's what is great about a forum like this, all of us get to express them. I may not agree with you now but I extend offers of assistance to you in the future. Cobra 3.0, you backed the talk up with action and that's sure sign of a gentleman with character. Thanks to everyone for their input into this subject it all was appreciated.

WTG Kozman

Good luck on your new boat. As a Cop you should be used to Cruddy personalities. I'm a Tax Collector and get it all the time. ;) Maybe that's why we expect more when we go out as ourselves.

I believe Crazy Charlie owes you an apology, but then again it wouldn't be worth much from such a sour puss.

Re: What is going on with these dealers?!?!?!

Koz, I let my emotions rule my thoughts. Being a hard working customer service oriented sales rep myself, I found it disparaging to hear that so many reps are lazy SOB's that can't even get out of their chair and naturally assumed part of the problem was you. I am sorry to have disbelieved your writings here. In this written world called the "forum", it is difficult to get the true sense of the individual without seeing the actual person, their expressions, and mannerisms. This would be what we(or should I say, "I") so strongly need to form a correct and accurate opinion on an individual and his/her motives on an issue. I will refrain from judging others the way I have done to you.

Now with my foot fully removed from my mouth, I feel much better...and can get back to enjoying the forum.

Again, happy boating and be safe!

Re: What is going on with these dealers?!?!?!

Cobra 3.0, we're all guilty of the emotion thing. It is hard to convey what a person really wants to say sometimes in word form. I know most sales reps aren't like the couple I ran into. This was my first experience shopping for a boat and I expected it to be like a car showroom with 3 reps coming down on me like vultures. I think the next time it'll be a little easier buying because I'll be used to the environment of shopping for a boat and will act accordingly. If it appeared that I was bashing all sales reps please understand I was not. A few of the dealers around my area have a bad rap and I wasn't aware of that until after I went to see them. I understand why. A few other dealers a little ways from around me have good reps. I know this now and now I know where to shop. Hey, everything new has a learning curve. I've learned plenty on this forum and will continue to and I hope to maybe someday here pass along a nugget of wisdom on my part to the fellow boaters here. With that said, I want to tell everyone to be safe this year. That store of mine that I have made reference to is approximately 10 seconds from the north shore boat ramp at Buckeye Lake. 2 days ago, two young strapping guys of 24 went out off that ramp in a 16' bass boat that one of them just bought. About 150 yards out in 10 feet of water, for some reason, the boat capsized and went under in about a minute. The mayor here heard the emergency call and just happened to be by his boat. He made it out to the scene before rescue did and saved one of the guys. The other was found dead yesterday. They believe the boat might have smacked him when it flipped or broke apart. Moral of the story I guess is no matter what kind of shape your in or how shallow the water, keep the vest on. Everyone, have a great and safe summer!!
