In addition to being the right thing to do, there's a legal reason to decline payment. If you help someone for free you're covered by the "good samaritan" law which protects you from liability. If you take payment (even if you didn't request payment) you become liable for any damages resulting from your actions.

First off thanks I was getting to feel like a dinosaur.Well anyway I added to the Karma thing yesterday. I was coming back to the car after getting a pack of cigs to see a kid pull up with his brand new to him boat (still had the 4 sale sign in the windshield) I tell the kid Nice boat and he just beamed telling me it is his first and he is just trying to get her home. I then look at the trailer and yep no plate hehe been there done that he did have the lights working however. I asked him if he would mind a couple of suggestions and he responded "by all means Thank You! with that I removed the 4 sale sign, now a look at me flag and showed him how to raise the lower unit manually into trailing position "older boat and no batt" when I asked how far he was going I found out he was only 20 min.s to the next town I yell over to my wife hey mama we got an escort to do and with that followed the young man to his driveway mainly to keep a cop from getting behind him. Leaving the kid still shaking his head wished him luck and started to drive off turning around I hear whom I guess was his Mom ask "who's that' his answer A gift from above. Damn! that made my day![]()
I always just tell them to help the next person... It just might be me!
The "old school" dropout rate is high and increasing.![]()
I'm sure the generation before us, and the generation before them, and on and on said the same thing.Yes, it's really disheartening. We (speaking as an oldschooler) are dying off and not being replaced in equal numbers. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good younguns out there, but mostly it's me, my, mine.
I'm sure the generation before us, and the generation before them, and on and on said the same thing.
Every generation seems to think the next generation is flawed, and selfish.
