State Farm same here..they ask YOU what its worth (within reason). My 88 is at $4000 boat/motor, $500 trailer. $300,000 Liability
Runs a little over $100 a year

Actually, you have 2 choices you can make. The first is "actual cash value" and the second is "agreed upon value". Ask your agent.
Granted, the "agreed upon value" is going to be a little more but it could save your butt in a total loss.
My 96 Glastron is only worth around 7 grand with the trailer being another $1500 or so. I have it insured for 8K on boat and 2K on the trailer, "agreed upon value".
So if I sink it and it's a total loss, they pay me 8K minus the $250 deductable. There's no fussing about what the boat is worth. The price difference between the two different policy's for my slug was only $80. For piece of mind, I payed the extra $80.

Actually the best bet is a good agent..(AND a good local) I have zero problems with mine (had him since I moved here 14 years ago. He works with me and my needs no problem. I flip around on three different motorcycles, and 3 boats. I was just there Monday. Selling the big 25 footer out front parked. As it is under tree's, the risk of a limb falling or fire until sold, has me now with the Liability knocked off, no trailer ins, and just the hull for damage now. Super cheap.
Thing here Puget Sound, is there are SOOOO many boats, that the very little claims spread out over so many, keep cost down.
The main thing to have is Liabilty though if used at all. I'm prepared to lose a boat to a fire or tree and write it off as S-Happens, but if ya get in just a "wee" bit of trouble with someone else, ya can lose everything ya got as well.. just gotta cover yer butt

Scaaty, that pretty much put's "your" situation in a nut shell.
I on the other hand, am not in the same boat (pun intended).
I am NOT prepared to lose my slug to S-Happens. But if/when it does, I'll rest assured that it's covered.
Everybody's situation is different. I guess it all comes down to how much you've got invested....
Invested might not be the right word, more like dumped down the hole.

2000 - 2,700. your most value is in the motor and trailer. flexing transom, blistering glass, just about negates the hull value.

Spot on... had I shined it up and worked hard at selling it, I would have
gotten 2500-3000, instead, "as is" I got 2000 for it. Felt bad selling it with
the bad transom (there was one crack on the cap I didn't see before)... it
wasn't exactly falling apart, but it wasn't solid either. The small bubbles in
the gel coat dried out smooth, so that was good.

Anyway, guy who bought it has a buddy who does fiberglass, so he can fix it
up right... something I just didn't want to spend the time doing. However, that
means it was a good deal for him still.

So now I have the boat bug... we wanted something newer, better looking,
and more reliable. Looking at a 2007 Chaparral 180 SSi but I can't find much
info online about them... even something simple as top speed with the 135HP
engine. Either that boat or maybe a 2006-2007 Yamaha SX210 which is
what I really want, but it's more expensive...

Anyway, thanks for all the links, advice, etc in this thread. Much appreciated.

And the good news is that NADA usually lowballs the price, so you could be looking at more...For insurance, I would put a rider on it and the trailer and insure it for $5000.00....

BTW- That is one great father-in-law ya got there...

I second $5,000 . remember that includes the trailer unless you declare the trailer separate. I have mine Insured for $4600 Stated value and the trailer for $850. Mine is very similar to yours. !986 Four Winns - Horizon 190 - 185 Hp
