What is Normal RPMs running In Neutral and out of water with ears?

Does anyone know the normal RPMs for a Mercruiser 140hp Alpha One Gen One running on land with rabbit ears. I'm running at 975 and it seems to be running really nice. Is that too high?

Spec is 650-700 in the water, in forward gear, so you might be close.

I don't run a choke, my motor runs about 550 RPM cold (after running about 1000 RPM for a minute with some throttle), Bout 650 RPM warm.

That is on land or in the water
