What is that piece above the prop?

My neighbor has a small fin looking part behind the prop on his Johnson 40. My Johnson 25 does not. I asked him why my motor would be pulling to one side. My skeg is not bent either. He asked if I was missing that part. Looks like something you can use to align the flow after the prop like a tiny rudder. Is this so? What is it called?

Took my boat out for the first time with this motor and ran great for 30 seconds and then started cutting in and out unless I was wide open. Then even cutted out some wide open. Looked under the cover and a little wet around the carb of fuel. Probably need to rebuild the carb now. Repair place said my needles may be gummed up from the motor sitting. No opening till the 23rd for repairs! Oh well... Give me time to build my console for remote steering.

That little "fin" is a trim tab.

Thats why yours is pulling, you lost your trim tab. We lost one a while back, the bolt had vibrated out.

Its a 1985 Johnson 25 hp. I definately need one the way it was pulling. I'll look down there and see if there is a place for it to bolt on and go from there.

Thanks!
