Re: what is the best bottom paint

Sam,

First, if i may suggest, this job should be done by a Marina or other professional, reason: if hull isn't prepped properly...paint wont stick, waterline will be uneven, blisters will form...BUT, If your dead set,and want to do it,here's the deal, First you need to decide what type your going to need : Hard or Ablative, one (hard) you can remove boat from water for a few days and you DONT need to repaint bottom, its probably your best choice...for better protection the other choice is Ablative, this sloughs off paint as time expires,in areas with mussels, very protected coves ( dead water) this offer's better hull protection. NOW for paint selection, i have always used INTERLUX made by US Paint, its the best there is, for Freshwater your choices are : ABLATIVE -Fiberglass Bottomkote ACT or HARD - Ultra Trilux 33. NOW before you start slapping on paint, you need to read this - http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa/boat_painting_guide/pdf/antifouling/fiberglass.pdf That will tell you how to prep the hull, follow the instructions or all your work will be futile...GOOD LUCK AMIGO.
PS - You should really have a marina do this..:D

Re: what is the best bottom paint

thanks for the reply. we are going to have a paint shop do the work so it's done right. the thing is we can get it done for paint and supplies, not a bad deal. beats 60 to 100 dollars a foot. we will have the boat out of the water from time to time maybe a week or two at most.
thansk again sam
