I had a 1982 Evinrude 115 hp on my boat but the motor was old and giving me to much trouble now i am in the market for a newer model engine for my boat would it be best to stick with a 20 inch shaft or move to a bigger on? I am not really sure what the difference is and would like to know if anyone had any good idea of an ideal motor for my boat. I have read through many forums and none i could find matched my topic i would like to look for a motor that is at least a 1996 or newer and i heard that force outboards were really the only motors i should stray away from. any help would be great. Thanks alot

the 20" shaft is the length of the engine leg. apparently your boat has a 20" transom, so you should stay withthe same length, or you would have to add a Jackplate. engine ETEC.

As mentioned, 20" is the shaft length. You do not want to go longer or shorter.

Use the 80% rule. Power the boat to 80 to 100% of its rated horsepower. Anything less and you may not be happy with the performance.

there should be a plate, on the boat either near the control, or on the transom, it should state max hp, max persons, max load lbs. if not contact aquasport with the hull id number.

Unless you have a need for speed any of the V4s of at least 115 hp would be a good all around fit for your rig. You can probably go to a V6 (after you check the max hp rating) but they are quite a bit heavier than the V4s.

Re: what is the best motor for my 19.6 aquasport??

ok so i am going to start looking for a motor in the range of 115 to 150 hp. i am looking for a 20 inch shaft and have no particular brand engine in mind i will do alot more reaserch on that but another question that popped into my head is if i get a 25 inch shaft engine then is a jack plate mandatory? also what should i expect to pay for controls/ wiring harness/ and instalation?(i already have hydro stearing) i am sure that make and modle have alot to do with this but i dont know really alot about boats and want to educate myself before i walk into a shop. Thanks again and any help is always appreaciated.
