We just bought a Garmin GPS 182. I have a Proline 19 Sport (center console).
The Garmin will need two holes drilled through the console, one for power the other for the external antenna. Does anyone have any experience doing this. Not sure what type of drill bit would be best or if there is any special process. Want to make sure it looks good.

Tom

a 3/8 or 1/2 in hole saw works just fine..

drill an 1/8 bit pilot hole first..

then take the drill bit of/on the holesaw an re-drill/increase the size of the pilot hole.. BUT WITHOUT THE HOLE SAW ..JUST DRILL BIT ONLY..

then attach the hole saw an continue..

you can buy the size you want at any hardware for less then 6 bucs..

Yeah, what Crabby said.

Select a size that will allow passage of any connectors and also fit a rubber grommet.

Cover the spot with masking tape before you drill. That will minimize chances of the bit slipping and also minimze chipping.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the information. I will pick up the bit on my next trip to Home Depot.

Running the hole saw in reverse untill you clear the gelcoat will also reduce chipping.
