What is the best way to prevent the gapping bolt on a points ignition from slipping and still be able to easily set the gap when tuning?

I recently tuned my 71 Merc 140 and slowly had runnabilty issues til I opened her up again and found the both the gap and the timing were way out after only about 5hrs run time - seems like the bolts that I thought were tight were not or they're worn enough they don't hold that well any more.

Would a type of lightly holding loctite work?

Augh...you DID lubricate the little wear block? If left dry it will wear rapidly and alter your dwell and ignition timing. The screw need only be snug, not overly torqued.

yup good grease and checked it when I opened it up again = the star washer will likely do the job
