I just like to go out tubing and water skiing with wife and kids and do some fishing if you built from scratch curious how much did it cost you with all new parts

I went further than most, bought an Eagle stroker reciprocating assembly kit making a 350 into a 383. Required machining reliefs for the larger crank lobes. Special flywheel balance, Vortec heads...4-5 grand CDN. I would shop for kits talk to the folks at the online parts places and talk to machine shops. I know crate motors can be a super value and as well a lot of machine shops sell assembled short (without heads) and long blocks cheaper than if you did it yourself. If your boat is heavy IMO the 350 is likely a better choice than the 305 for your money. Much better torque to pull skiers and the sooner you get on plane the sooner you can throttle back which means the 350 is sometimes more economical to run. A standard rule for boats is having a bigger motor and run it easy is better than having a smaller motor and running it hard.
