Re: What is the fastest you have gone on water?

I think my old Renken with the 165 Merc did about 40 mph. I'm trying to get my friend to take me for a ride in his 42' Black Thunder with 3 Supercharged 572s turning about 750hp each. The guy he bought it from told him he had it to 112mph. Very nice boat.
I dont know how fast these guys were going yesterday, but they were really cool to watch.

I have an uncle that had a 24' Fountain with 2 427s putting out 450 hp each, got it up to 83mph, couldn't talk him into letting me drive for some reason.

Pretty scary.

My boat will only go 30 and the fastest I have actually driven one was 47 on a pontoon of all things, not nearly as fun as the Fountain.

I've been 147 MPH on the water. 52 ft outlaw with triple 1075's. What a blast!

Back in the day a buddy and I built a 17 1/2 foot jet boat......................rigged it with a Berkley Pump (Modified by Dons Pump Service) And a BB Chevy that Dyno'd at 897 HP at 5800 RPM. We ran it as a couple of ADBA races in the mid 80's...............It ran the 1/4 mile in the 10.30's range with a top end speed of 108 MPH......................But we used it for a lake boat most of the time. That was by far the hardest accelerating boat, motorcycle, car, anything I've ever experienced....................And yes there were several occasions we ran her flat out at the lake...:D:D:D

100-180mph isn't even fast!!!!
Record set in 1978 at 317 mph.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_speed_record

The most important line on that page is this one.

"With an approximate fatality rate of 85% since 1940, the record is one of the sporting world's most hazardous competitions."

Watched a documentary on the history of water speed records, was a great show, but it was one of those shows where you say, as much as I like pushing limits & as much as I like speed, that is something I don't think I will try.

Hit a little over 50 on the river here on Sunday in a friends new/old boat.

The river starts to get kinda small after that. It was windy with a good chop out there.

Could never really open it up, just too many boats to do so safely. That was fast enough for the days conditions.

1961 when I was 18 & dumb enough to try it a friend let me take his class 'C' hydro out for a run. I think I bumped about 105 then backed out of it. It was a world record holder at the time for about 127 as I recall. Was powered by a German motor - a Konig that ran on alcohol & caster oil. Stunk to high he-- when it was running.
Now if I hit 50 in our ski boat it's an exciting day;)

red fishing in the middle of winter on a 20 foot proline with a 225 merc, that cold air felt like it was doing about mach 2!

in all honesty, the fastest ive ever been was prolly about 45-50 in a friends G3 with a 90 yammy 4 stroke, i dont have gps or speedos in either of my boats, id say they both do somewhere between 20-35

My fastest was on a buddy of mines Baja, not sure which model but hit low 70's.

The fastest on my personal boat was today! 52mph gps on my Chaparral 198xl w/ new cobra 800, new ss 14 1/4 by 21, 4.3l Vortec w/ Holley 4 brl. This was on slight chop with a little wind. I suspect I can get a couple more mph on a smooth as glass no wind day. My prior personal best with this boat was about 48.

Re: What is the fastest you have gone on water?

About 25 years ago my friend's uncle loaned us a Grumann canoe with a flat back made for a small electric motor (up to 2hp as I recall). He loand it to us with the understanding that we were paddling with it.

Not so. I dropped on my grandfather's 10hp Evinrude Jubilee.

I have no idea how fast we were able to go, but I can tell you that on flat water in a straight line- it felt like 80 (probably about 40 in reality). If I tried to turn, the canoe would want to capsize, but straight runs were fun as he11!

Do not admit to ever overpowering on this forum, it is very dangerous, should only be done in a closed environment, and only then by trained expert professionals.

Should have mentioned that this occurred while I was a teenager. I would NEVER consider doing this today, and would promptly step in now if I saw someone else being that stupid.

I have to say that it was probably the most fun I've ever had on a boat of any kind though. But.............

To make everyone happy:

DO NOT TRY THIS! IT IS VERY DANGEROUS! The canoe was extremely unstable!

My 17' Hurricane Fundeck GS with a 115HP Johnson hits 46MPH. A guy on our lake has some snot rocket racing boat which when at top speed has only the last few inches of the boat in the water plus the prop. He runs a Merc 300x on it an it apparently tops out a 105MPH. Insane to watch, can't imagine being in it.

Re: What is the fastest you have gone on water?

I have squeezed out 49mph with my deckboat on an early morning ride alone. I was surprised because I had had it up to 49 mph with my wife and kids in as well so I figured a little bit less weight and i would break fifty. not so..
Maybe once I get my smart tabs on, empty my fresh water tank and run it on 1/4 tank i'll get it
