Can anybody out there tell me what my 1988 75 horse Mariner should be running at at wot? And how accurate are the speedodemeters that register from the little hole on the lower part of the motor?

Try Google-ing it for max RPM, or guestimate it's 5200-ish rpm.

Regarding the speedometer, it depends whether your going with the current or against it, or on still water. Regardless of accuracy, it will register speed over water - not over ground. Use a GPS to determine your speed over ground regardless of current, wind or other factors that can add or subtract to your boat speedometer. I prefer to watch my tachometer and boat at safe speeds for the conditions water and environment. Speed kills.

Re: What is the max rpm for my motor

Thanks for the info. My tach reads at about 5200-ish at wot. I just wanted to make sure I was getting the max performance out of my motor. My GPS went out on my Lowrance. I will be getting a new Humminbird soon.
