Re: what is the motor

My info says 1990 4cylinder 40 hp has a 2.00 gear ratio and is rated at a max rpm of 5500.
If you read "read this first" at the top of the prop page and tell us your prop size and present wot rpm and speed
We can help you make a decision.Speed by gps is best.

Re: what is the motor

Unfortunately without rpm there is no way to know if the motor is within its operating range.
or if your setup is working.
Sometimes tach problems are just bad connections. Some tachs have a switch on the back.Make note of the setting and operate the switch a few times to clean the contacts.
A tiny tach is reasonable easy to install and will work on any gas engine.
I can tell you that "about" 30 is reasonable for a 40 but not knowing if the boat is 100lbs or 1000 lbs that info doesn't mean much.
Did you read "read this first" at the top of the prop page.

I think the op wants this info. Not speed.

I think the op wants this info. Not speed.
I gave him the info but it seems he wants to check or improve his performamce.
Said he wished he knew rpm and then gives speed and weight of him and gear.
Thats why a suggest he read "read this first" That would at least get us the prop size, speed and what boat
still not enough but might tell if the setup is close to what it should be.
