What is the thing on the back of some boats that looks like an extendable square foot

Noob question, but what is it? It looks like it extends. It reminds me of a stabilizer leg on a back hoe. It is mounted above the water line on the stern.

Probably a bracket for a kicker (smaller trolling motor).

Powerpole, sticks in the bottom to temporarily hold the boat in position. Obviously for shallow water use ... www.power-pole.com/

My vote is for the power pole as something most resembling a part found on a back hoe.

My guess is speedometer pitot tube. But are we sure we're talking about the back of a boat?
