What is the year of my Outboard Mercury Engine?

I have a Mercury Outboard that is 4 cylinder with a Model 4D-3 Magneto Type. The sticker on the engine says it's 65Hp Thunderbolt. I can't be sure if the previous owner put these stickers on because the front plate is blue and shows Mercury 500 but the cowling is a wrap around with red stripes. The sticker on the side is in red stripes and has 65HP. Anyhow, the engine was mounted on a 1965 Sportilne 16ft boat. I need to know the year of the engine. These are the numbers I found.

1. Under the flywheel on the engine ( 1128-1890)
2. The right side of the engine block looking from the back of the boat (Kiethaelfer Panther 834-1851)
3. On the engine block where the spark plugs are at ( 1012-2077)
4. Left motor bracket ( 1440-1333) same bracket just further back ( HA2014-111)

Which number do I use as reference? Thanks in advance.

Can you post pictures of it? ,My cousin has a similar sounding engine its a 79, i i think its 70s-80s prob 77 the last two numbers on the block.

I will post a picture tomorrow. Is there another area I should be looking for the serial number? After doing some research its seemed to me that it was circa 65, 66, 67 year only because that's the time that the Magneto was used. After 67 a distributor was used. I don't know? Will post a picture tomorrow. Thanks

i think that old more looks black with chrome/alum accents. magnetos are really staggered so you cant tell the years by that but this site should help http://www.marineengine.com/mfr/mercury_models.html let us know what ya find.

Here are my pics...hope it will give an idea to find out the year of my Mercury OB. I looked everywhere for the serial number and the only ones I found so far are the ones listed in my first post.

Still haven't been able to find serial number but the title for.the boat says its a 1964 Sportline so the engine is either a 64 or 65. I will go with this for now.
