What is this and is it normal?

First time DIY Carb Rebuild. I am also rebuilding the fuel pump and replacing fuel lines to be safe. See pics below. What is the black stuff in the yellow bowl after cleaning carb? Black buildup seen in intake? Lastly, reddish gunk in fuel pump parts?

Good ?, I don't know. I'll have to consult a parts diagram unless someone on here knows. It looks like buildup of some sort, but I may be paranoid. If it is the edge of a gasket, it's not in good shape.

The stuff in the bowl is most likely pcs. of deteriorated hose.

That is what I was afraid of. The packing washers for the idle jet were terrible. I am still trying to get the pieces out of the threads. I thought it could be pieces of the washers, but I thinkbitbis more likely hose deterioration.

Looks like you've got a fuel system that may pre-date the use of ethanol fuels. When today's fuels pass thru the older hoses and fuel system parts, they eat it away the rubber components. The black bits flow thru the fuel system. If they are large enough, they'll plug up jets. Smaller ones just pass through. Carb gaskets, fuel hoses, fuel pumps are all affected.
