I have a 1979 Johnson 140HP VRO engine and when I choke the ignition switvh during starting, it leaks gasoline out of the top area below the red lever.

Your attachments ain't coming up Algie.

From your post, it sounds like you have a leaky primer solenoid manual lever.....but those didn't come along till the 80's. Post a model number for us so we can get the year.

If it is a primer solenoid and it's leaking around the manual lever, all ya' gotta' do is get a new lever and replace it. Easy job. But let's make sure we know what we are dealing with first.

Thanks!

i couldnt get your pictures to come up, but as previous poster said, its likely your primer, there are three plastic nipples on it,if the gas was always flowing i would say it was on the feed sise, but most times the smaller nipples break off ,this also causes harder starting because depending which is broke, those cylinders dont get the prime.it could be the top of the unit cracked, either way,you can buy the new top, once the unit is removed by removing the two hold down screws and the wiring, there are four screws on top of the primer that allow it to come apart, not hard
