Yep. Downrigger mount for sure. Check here on iBoats or Bass Pro for downriggers and see what bases match yours.

It seems to be a downrigger mount...the downrigger that came with the boat is a Penn. It looks like the pic posted above...in all my years of fishing I never used a downrigger....or even seen one...now I have a new toy to learn how to use...thank you all for your help....

Somnee please clarify boat terms for me. I thought the transom was the vertical back of the boat where the motor mounts. Is the horizontal upper deck at the back of the boat also referred to as a transom? I was picturing this device on the back of the boat beside the motor.

Yes thank you all...I hope you enjoyed my art and crap photos and as it goes "you learn something new everyday". Over 20 yrs fishing and never seen or used a downrigger.....and I don't know about the transom. I consider the whole back of the boat the transom, thanks again guys....

The transom is the back of the boat where the outdrive motor mounts or where the lower unit of an I\O goes through. On boats with an I\O the the transom can be quite tall and the top will be as wide as the sides thus allowing a downrigger mount to sit there.

The back end of the boat is the "stern". I includes the transom. the area on top across the back of the boat and about 1/3 forward. The middle part of the boat (the center 1/3) would be "amidship" and the forward 1/3 is the "bow". Facing forward, the right side of the boat is "starboard" and the left is "port". You keep that straight because port and left both have four letters.
