I replaced the impeller this weekend on a 85HP 1969 johnson. I never have replaced one before and did it from the manual. Impeller change went fine but there was a gasket between the lower end and the exhaust tube. The gasket was mangled when I removed the lower end. It looks like who ever worked on this moter last got it twisted when the lower end was bolted back up. Anyhow I don't know where to find this gasket or no what the part number is. Can anyone tell me that part number is?<br />Also on one of the bolts that held the lower end on when I removed it the threads were stripped out from inside. This is the bolt from behind the trim tab. Does anyone have any expierence with repairing these threads?

The gasket between the gearcase, and exhaust housing was later done away with, if this is the gasket you are referring too! The stripped thread can be repaired with a heli-coil. It would be a 3/8 course thread. This can be bought at an auto supply store.

Are you speaking of the gasket that all of the bolts would pass through, or the rubber seal that is located on the inner exhaust housing tube, the one that would seat within the top portion of the lower unit?

Joe, It's the inner rubber seal around the exhaust tube.

Gary.... That seal is OMC part number 314937, readily available at any Evinrude/Johnson dealership.
