Good Morning All:

I have a 15' runabout - just bought - and I am crawling aournd underneith the coverd front portion to check out things. I see some sort of spray on insulation on the overhead. It has aged and is easily gouged by scratching it with my finger.

Couple of questions-

A - what is it

B - what's it for

C - Do I need/want it?

D - Should I/How do I replace it?

Your patience with a newbie is greatly appreciated and needed.

Regards

Hal

Re: What is this insulation

It is not insulation. It is sprayed in foam, up high, for upright floatation should the boat sink.
Do you need or want it? Do you intend to sink? No one does, but "stuff" happens. It was required by the coast guard for model hull type certification. Having experienced flipping a little race type boat a couple of times, I sprayed more into every cavity I could.

As long as it is not falling off, there is no need to replace it.
