What is this part and what to do with it?

Mine is a 2001 Regal 18' LSR with 4.3 Volvo GL. This part is connected and laying loose close to the distributor. The motor starts and runs great with it disconnected. What's it for and where does it connect? Thanks in advance.

Is that the trim sensor? Does your trim gauge work?
