Bought a new boat, time to wire up the radio and depth finder. Saw on another boat a part made of stainless steel that wires run through to seal out the weather. Cant find where to buy this because i don't know what it is called. Also, is there one item thats better than others?
Thanks for your help.

While I'm not sure about the exact part you are looking for but I have used the following. These are outlets for passing cables through the dash or anywhere a cable goes from outside to inside. NOT BELOW THE WATERLINE THOUGH ! They have a rubber grommet that will seal out water & dirt.
Go to the West Marine website and under electronics go to radios. antennas and connectors.
There are a couple of cable outlets there. Prices run aprox $5-8 each.
I just checked the website and found the following:
Chrome Cable Outlet
1/4" WM Model # 117283
5/16" WM Model # 123851
3/8" WM Model # 181859

These are outlets for passing cables through the dash or anywhere a cable goes from outside to inside. NOT BELOW THE WATERLINE THOUGH ! They have a rubber grommet that will seal out water & dirt. Also, they are not connectors, the cable runs through them.
Hope this helps.

Heyco, Lapp, & others manufacture cord grips / sealing glands in plastic ~$3 - 5 ea. Sealcon makes them in S.S., ~ $35 ea. They all sell thorough distributors.

Do you have a West Marine or another marine store close to you? They have most of these that you can look at. It really depends on where you are mounting. The clam shell is one of the least expensive and works well in most cases, but it is not a positive seal, meaning that some water could get through if it comes from the right direction. No big deal in most cases if a little water says goes through you center console. Now if you have a cuddy cabin that you are mounting over you may want to use one of the styles that gives you a positive seal.
