just spray with gel type lubricants ( sticks more) try wd40 Gel....
ot just paint it over with marine grease till you fix it
Will probably just lather it with Penrite marine grease, should be ok? I mean its been like that for a long time before I got it and just had a complete 6 hour labour service 3 months ago, so tech clearly wasnt concerned, but odd he didnt put something on it.

I read a counter intuitive article about WD40. Didnt know there was a gel variety though. CRC is common place here, similar product, but has a variety of types for what you are using it on.

its normal. it will take about 50 years being strappeddown and tide coming in and out before that rusts away.. best thing if you do not want to seethat is jet wash it, then give it a coat of primer then paint it....... and DO NOT WORRY about it.. I understand you do nt like to see it, but just clean and paint it.. then when dry spray a silicone spray over it.. to help keep it nice..

you answered the question ...see post 21 stop worrying and go fishing
Haha true mate. But as per above your post, I just hate seeing it there. We do not have that WD40 gel spray here, but Im just going to spray anti corrosion on it and ignore it :)
