there is this strange screw in the engine block, it has a gasket and when removed it appears there is oil of some sort inside. Attached is a similar picture of the screw. On mine though, there are 2 of what appear to be threaded mounting holes on each side of this screw.

?------That is a plug.-----If you remove it you get crankcase pulses.----the 2 smaller screws above and below are what you would use to install the factory wee square fuel pump.

Gotcha. New to outboards (and 2 strokes) but I’m pretty decent with 4 stroke motors. I left the plug in I was just tightening things up as the previous owner left a lot of those unscrewed. (I found this in a free pile)

Some people like to run these motors off an external tank, as the built in tank only holds about 3/4 gallon. For that you need a fueI pump. I can troll for over 2 hours on 3/4 gallon, so I just carry a small gas can with me and refill the built in tank as needed.

I would probably do the same. Its not hard to bring a gas can :)

I used to have a Yachtwin 4 hp with the fuel pump, which I added. It was aux power for the sailboat and i didn't want to have to hang over the stern to try refilling the tank, especially in rough water. Worked fine for years.
Now have a Yamaha 4hp with the same setup.
