That is obviously a device designed to hoist a kid up in mid-air by the belt loop of his britches so he'll be out of everyone's hair during the upcoming recreational season. I can see by the snow in the background you are planning ahead! ;)

A tripod with a pulley, my guess is it is used as an aid to lifting and holding items at a predetermined hight. could also be used for outdoors cooking.
Hey roscoe, do what you want, but I think I would replace that little s-hook at the top.
They will not hold to much. Don't ask how I know.

Re: What is this thing ?

Oh jeez, now replacing the s hook with a bigger one is gonna cost me a trip to the hardware store. That can get expensive. :D

I hear you SBN, but had to use what was in the garage.
Will pick up 2 larger ones when I get to town. (there is one on the end of the chain too.)

SBN - If you are driving up with a pig, I'll find a cooker. :)
But no formal meal plans.
Probably play till 5, cook, then eat about 6, then head out walleye hunting till dark, then sit around the fire.

heycods - I had alot of help with the welding.

That's how I knew it was for little kids, and not adult females.

Oooops...did I say that?

Top part looks to be stainless steel Roscoe. Is that right? If so and you change out the S hook SBN mentioned, get yourself a small stainless shackle to match the nice job and prevent the block from coming off. :)

Re: What is this thing ?

Yes, top hub, I bolt, cap nut, is stainless, obtained from food processing equipment scrap.
Legs are just 1/2" conduit.
Chain is 35# test plumbers chain.
The whole thing breaks down in 8 seconds, and fits in 2 denim bags, to keep the inside of the vehicle clean.

Max weight it will ever need to hold is 25# (3 gallons of water),
has already been tested with 40#.

Figure most cooking will be 2-8 lbs.

I say its a great use of unusable parts and pieces. There is nothing better than building stuff out of your junk pile.

Stan, I remember camping a few years back.
Heated a cup of water for instant coffee, in a PAPER cup over an open fire !!
Really dazzled the kids that day.
They thought I was Mr. Wizard.
