What is this alumimun trim piece called? How to remove rivits ? How to reinstall? I wish to wrap nautolex underneath it

Don't know what its called but you should be able to drill the rivets out. Use a drill bit about the size of the rivet head and it will take the top off. Push the old rivet pieces out, do what you want to do then reinstall new rivets. They are probably 1/4 inch rivets.

I had those off on my Starcraft. They were 3/16 diameter on mine.

Id call that gunwale trim. Like he said, drill bit slightly larger than hole in the rivet head. Dont drill all the way through, just enough till the head pops off, then punch out the rest.

I would start with an 1/8" drill bit and if that doesn't remove the body of the rivet go up to the 3/16" bit. I have found the 1/4" is mostly used for structure and 1/8" is used on trim.

On my boat they are called gunwale caps, that cover up the ragged sharp edges, so they do need to be reinstalled, as stated, drill the rivet heads off, then us a punch to gently push them out so you don't distort the aluminum, often times the aluminum is thin in that area.
